A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 4 : A Feast for Crows

까마귀들을 위한 향연이라는 제목과는 사뭇 다르게(물론 도시가 얼마나 황폐해졌는지 곳곳에 나오지만, 그런 내용은 3편에도 나왔었다), 내용에서는 거대한 전투씬들 보다는, 주로 여자 조/주연들의 이야기들을 중심으로 진행된다. 주된 인물들은 Brienne, Cersei, Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, Sam, Jame Lannister, Asha Greyjoy들로, Jon snow, Tyrion, Bran Stark, Daenerys의 이야기들은 거의 나오지 않는다. 3권에서 진도를 많이 진행하셔서 그런지, 이번엔 굉장히 느리게 진행된다. 전체적으로는, 수많은 인물들이, 여러 환타지 요소들과 결합해서 어떻게 마지막을 정리할까 궁금하지만, 이미 중요한 인물들을 죽음으로 정리한 터라, 북벽의 White walker들과 Deanerys의 성장이 주요 축을 이루어가는 듯 해도, 아직, 정리하지 못하고 계속 성장해가는 다른 인물들이 너무 많아 보인다. 앞으로 6권과 7권으로 마무리를 짓겠다던 마틴옹은 5년이 넘도록 6권을 쓰고 계시니...5권에서 존스노우까지 배반으로 죽임을 당하니,...궁금한 마음에, 거의 매달, 6권이 안 나오나, 지켜보고 있다.마음같아선, 전화해서 빨리 쓰라고 조르고 싶지만...자꾸 조르면, 혜성을 부딪히게 해서 결론을 짓겠다고 하시니..ㅋㅋ.

또한 단순히 선악의 대립 구도에서 벗어나 다채로운 인물들이 보여주는 권력을 둘러싼 숨 막히는 음모와 계략, 비정한 배신과 숭고한 희생, 욕망으로 가득한 파란만장한 인간사를 절묘하고 흥미진진하게 엮어낸다. 이러한 요소들을 각각의 색과 맛을 퇴색시키지 않으면서 하나의 이야기로 풀어내는 것은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니지만, 저자는 치밀한 복선과 인물의 심리 묘사 등을 통해 사람과 사건들을 노련하게 아우르며 이 웅장하고 현란한 대곡 A Song of Ice and Fire 를 훌륭하게 지휘하고 있다.
